# Track usage and credits

> Check your shared AmzDownloader credit balance and understand charges for media retrieval and conversion, free polling, failures and idempotent replays.

AmzDownloader API and MCP requests share your existing account credit balance. Check `GET /usage` before starting a workflow and inspect billing metadata returned with a request.

```bash theme={null}
curl --fail-with-body --max-time 30 \
  'https://amzdownloader.com/api/v1/usage' \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $AMZDOWNLOADER_API_KEY"
```

The response reports your available credits and usage information. The exact fields are defined by the public OpenAPI schema. Reading usage consumes no credits.

## Credit rules

| Operation | Credits |
| - | - |
| Successful extraction | 1 |
| Successful cached product media retrieval | 1 |
| Successful video conversion, including a cached conversion | 1 |
| Job status and owned job result retrieval | 0 additional |
| Failed requests | 0 |
| Replay of a completed operation with its original idempotency key | 0 additional |
| Health, capabilities, OpenAPI and MCP initialization/discovery | 0 |

An asynchronous extraction is charged once for a successful result. Polling and retrieving that job result do not add credits. A new product cache lookup is a separate media retrieval and costs one credit on success.

## Retry without duplicating work

For a new extraction, conversion or cached media retrieval, send a unique `Idempotency-Key`. Reuse that key only for the identical operation. A key reused with different inputs can return an idempotency conflict. Do not generate a fresh key on every retry of the same work.

Account limits and request rates are separate from the credit balance. Honor `Retry-After` and keep polling bounded even for free endpoints. See [errors and retries](/docs/errors.md).
